I just found out that the new injected models (2 strokes) are scheduled for piston replacement at 80 hours, but that's not all. Apparently the oil pump should also be replaced at the same time. List price is around $125USD for that but Rocky Mountain ATV are selling them for $95 for anyone interested.

Is the oil pump replacement at 80hrs stated in the book or the dealers recommendation?
Seems like overkill,although it is a extremely vital part that could lunch the motor if it stops working.

RMATV did a test on the KTM 250i and quoted the figures so I would assume it's straight out of the manual. Even so the fact that this should be replaced at such an early point is a concern and it's longevity is critical to the protection of the crank. Makes you think twice about if you would buy a second hand one....

I guess the next 6 to 12 months will be interesting. I'll have to chat with Stefan at R&D about it. Think I'll be sticking with my old carby TE300 '14 model for a while yet.

Ok. I found out elsewhere that oil pump replacement is at 80hrs.
It's an important link much like a timing belt in a car,so it's preventative maintainance before it stops working. It sure bumps the running costs up though if you don't do your own rebuilds. I know of a few riders that do 200hrs a year and heaps that do 100hrs.

If that's true TPI is off my 2019 update until it's updated or re worked which is a shame maybe beta should tell Ktm how to make a oil pump work

Let's hope for trailrider it's more like 200 hrs

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the oil pump and run the tpi on premix?

Not really, the main bearings will run dry. Plus I suspect the big end wouldnít get much either even though it injects into the transfers. Itís timed so most of the fuel is pushed into the combustion chamber and doesnít circulate around the crank.

Mmm, interesting. I wheeled my neighbours tpi onto the trailer last night after putting my 17 carby model on, it could just be me but I reckon I could feel a noticeable weight difference ^dunno

They do ride well though, I havenít been in any knarly terrain on one yet just tight to flowing single. They are very responsive, smooth but responsive - the couple Iíve ridden feel like they have a bit more of a hit into the mid range than my carby bike.

Think Iíll be sticking with the 17 carb for a while until I see how the tpi goes long term.

There has been a couple of horror storyís down here with the Beta oil bikes engine seizing because no oil to the engine.
