Booked by police for wearing a GoPro

Today, in Melbourne a motorcycle rider was booked for failing to wear a complianced helmet because he was wearing a GoPro helmet camera and a Bluetooth communication device fitted to his helmet.
Does anyone have any links to the legislation regarding the use of helmets in Victoria?
I think I would be tempted to fight this bs charge. Thoughts?

I would imagine that it would be classed as a modification

I don't have free access to the standards I'm sure there's a student or teacher that can post the up to date standards for helmets. I'm interested as well now as all my helmets have GoPro mounts on them.

Quoting from Australian Standard AS/NZS 1698:2006 (this part is identical with the old 1988 Standard):

8. MARKING
Each helmet shall be permanently and legibly marked in letters no less than 1.5 mm, in such a manner that the marking can be easily read without the removal of padding, or any permanent part, with the following:
(a) Name of the manufacturer.
(b) Model designation.
(c) Size.
(d) Month and year of manufacture (may be spelled out, eg ?July 2005?, or in figures, eg ?7/05?).
(e) The words ?Vehicle User?s Helmet?.
(f) Instructions to user:
(i) Shell and liner constructed of (identify type(s) of material).
(ii) Helmet may be seriously damaged by substances such as petrol, paint, adhesives, or cleaning agents.
(iii) Make no modifications.
(iv) Fasten helmet securely.
(v) If helmet experiences a severe blow, destroy it and replace it.
(vi) Ensure that any visor attached to this helmet meets the requirements of AS 1609.
(g) The certification mark (where required by Statutory Authorities).

Sounds like something one could get fined for... But really shows once again how petty our police force has become!!! Surely there are better things our law enforcement officers could be doing...

Maybe the helmet was not up to Australian Standards and it had nothing to do with the Gopro or Bluetooth device. Could have purchased the helmet O/S and didn't have a sticker on it. He may have also modified the helmet and fitted these devices by screwing on the Gopro and removing padding to fit the Bluetooth device. If this happened I can completely understand why he got a ticket for it.

I dont live in Vic but here in NSW there are no offences that I'm aware off that apply to Gopro's being fitted to helmets and having a Bluetooth device in your helmet.

In my opinion I wouldn't believe the story unless I seen the ticket with my own eye's.

What a crock of poo if this is true.

These "pigs" are out of control in this country.
One day someones gonna shoot back and these idiots won't know what to do.
Their revenue book ain't gonna help em. They wonder why they are hated so much.
Absolutely ludicrous.

I bet a cyclist would just ride on by with no hassles at all.

if you spin the helmet real quick whilst recording you might see the sticker

seriously though, seems kinda pathetic and no good for police relations/ image. you would think they have better things to do

They are angry over citizens filming their pathetic attempts at serving the public so they have found a wording of the law that allows them to stop people from using helmet cameras or fine those that do have them.

NSW Police Bikes use Cardo Wireless units attached to their helmets, presume their Victorian counterparts do something similar.
