Gas Gas 2018 EC300 "Six Days"

I had just a brief squirt on the bike (Close Motorcycles demo) today & immediately a few things stood out -

* Weight - felt a fair bit lighter than a '15 EC300 I rode a few weeks back.
* Motor - quiet, zero vibrations, very strong yet smooth bottom end. Didn't have the room to go above the mid-range, which was definitely not soft.
* Gearbox - gears seemed well spaced and shifting was very slick.
* Ergos - not a fan of the sweepy 'bar but the pegs and seat felt good and the standing position was comfy immediately.
* Suspension - whaddya reckon?! Superb straight out of the box (1hr), of course! A bike to make riding longer easier because of the boingers. Softer valving than my mx-spec SSS, but more forgiving. Shock was excellent.
* Button - worked for me in or out of gear, but I did see the bike struggle a bit to start on the button earlier in the day. Could've been a stone cold motor or stock jetting.
* Brakes - awesome.
* Visuals - a very sexy bike to eyeball, no doubt.

Gas Gas most definitely back in the game!

I rode one with 5klms on the speedo. The starter took a bit to get going until about 30 or 40 klms. Must be nice and tight from new.

Yes, they do.

It appears there's a minor fix to the earthing that will resolve the intermittent starting issue, so I'll put that in place this week - the bike is Close Motorcycles demo bike, feel free to PM me if you'd like to book a test ride anywhere around Sydney. The bikes are based in Marrickville, but I'm happy to come out and meet you somewhere.

I'm impressed with the bike, and with the support that I've received so far from the importer so you can see what the fuss is about.

I'm impressed, but as a dealer and with a username like ggchris there's a fair chance that I would be!

So, today's fang was around Nowra with another Gasser riding buddy- this time a 450 four stroke Gasser rider. Million degrees, dry as a nuns, cooler and humid in the forested sections.

Single track in forests, sandy whoops, unexpected rocky sections, lots of logs, sharp pinches and gulleys. Then onto open double track with wash outs, whoops and erosion jumps. Few straight rock sections in between, nothing difficult but probably hit a lot faster than some of the things I normally ride.

The new bike takes all of this in its stride. I wasn't riding quickly, but I also wasn't riding carefully (looking over my shoulder a lot). It excels at making problems go away. Didn't see a tree root, no probs - the bike's got it. Rocks? What rocks? Whoops - yeah, right. Need to put the front in the air at zero notice? Crack the throttle and move back and it happens - everywhere, every time. There's traction where you don't expect it, and the brakes slow you down like hitting trees slows you down.

Everyone rides this thing faster than whatever they were on before. Guy I was riding with today - committed 4 stroke guy, mind you - declared the bike was "Cheating. It's half the weight."

I had to ride his 450 while he was testing the 2018 and yeah - he's right. It's cheating.
