KTM 125 EXCs ran 41mm carbs back in the day. With PWK**-AG carbs the bore diameter is largely inconsequential to the bottom-end. The air guides limit in-bye vacuum at small throttle openings, not the carb bore.

The bikes that Spac is talking about were mostly smooth-bores and early PWK screw tops.

Carb diameter is a secondary design consideration once induction vacuum is determined, its not an initial design function. Lets not get too caught up in carb size. i.e. 36-AGs are way too small for KTM 300s (and 250s IMO) but they choose one carb for all models for economic, not technical reasons.
