2014 kx 85 or 2014 ktm 85

looking to move up bikes soon im about 80 pounds and 4'7.I am a full racer and i go to the track about 3 times a week and i practice at my home track about 2 times a week. I currently ride a 2009 fully modified kx65 and i ride the crap out of it and im getting a bit tall for it IMO. i rode my friends 85's for a day a few months back and he had a kx and a ktm both were 2007's and i really liked the ktm being the fact that it had really good bottom, mid and pretty good top end.

wasn't crazy about his kawasaki it felt a little slugish but i have read that the 2014 kx85 has 20% more power and its smaller than the ktm which is better for me. But i really like the ktm because it felt to have a lot more power and the 2014's are even faster and more powerful than the model i rode. But my problem is the maintenence for the ktm. when i had my ktm 65 i had to rebuild the top end 3 times within 2 months (but i think it had other issues). tell me what you guys think.thanks in advance.

As with all bikes, espcially with the KTM,a clean air filter all the time and correct jetting for what and how you ride, also good 2T oil.Its about time Kawasaki brought a new 85 out and it looks the goods.
We have had 4 KTM 85`s over the years and learnt the hard way with the first one but didn`t have any dramas with the next 3.
You will get to the stage where you will want to change the power of either bike, see what is possible with the Kwaka but there is are plenty of options with the Kato.
No Brainer for me...KTM

the only thing stopping me from the ktm. is its a lot bigger than the kx85. and im not growing fast. we do the usual stuff like get the suspension lowered and shave the seat. but are there other ways to lower it?

not sure where you are located but I would put the TM 85 on the list as well. Smaller frame than the KTM, similar power. i am biased though. But given the choice the KTM is the go in my opinion. The New KX is good but the 20% more is all up top. the adjustability of the KTM suspension is much better as well.

Suspension is not that adjustable because of the PDS Rear shock,I am assuming you will be getting a small wheel 85,does it feel tall when you are riding or touching the ground,if it`s the ground you can slip the forks through the triple clamps but this will make it steer quicker and maybe a bit twitchy at speed.
