Yeah but who is winning the safari and baja 1000 with such a bike?

The dakar bikes are all carbed...cos bike FI in 2012 is really very unde developed and full of problems.

Tell me really what tangible seat of the pants overall benefits does FI produce over the FCR?

The bikes arent magically 10HP more by virtue of the FI

450X owners running an IMS 3.2 tank:

I just found mine is rubbing through the rocker cover near the spark plug port, rubbing is caused by the fuel outlet on the tank [oem outlet]
I solved the issue by fitting 2 rubber washers under the front tank mount [on top of frame-under the tank mount] and a strip of 3mm rubber on both frame spars down near the rear of the tank, this lifted it about 5mm all up which should be enough to stop the rubbing.

Just spoke to JCR in California:

It is def an issue. Here's the fix:

To solve it they use a 2008 CRF450R tank fitting and hose. Honda part # 16955-MEB-671. (I think you lose reserve function)

They also use a rubber pad on each side of the tank. It?s also from a 2008 CRF450R. Honda part# 17522-MEN-730. It?s held in place with common plastic ties.

Cheers

Rob

Damn ya, now i'm gunna have to go and get one too...
Rode a crf250r today, well i didn't really ride it so much as i took it for a damn good flogging as it deserved it, anyhows the front brakes on that thing were awesome so i know i need to do something to mine now.
Btw, Narby rocks, much better than Kinglake imo for numerous reasons.

Ps, this thread will need a lot of chit chat deleted to be worthwhile making it a sticky.
Imo.

It started out good, turned into a discussion on the merits of EFI. :

EFI for the almighty 450X, not just any bike

So far Honda has resisted the sheep and not done efi - frankly to our benefit.

UNTIL such time as the efi metrics actually improve then, I'll be happy for them to leave the bike as is.

They are already trialling efi but the time it is taking suggests one thing - it's average at best
