No Yamaha dealer in Canberra?

Interested in checking out the new WR250F. I know that Joe's lost the dealership, heard whispers CMC were getting it but dropped in yesterday & they said they didn't want to know about them (WTF?!!!!!).

They referred me onto Melrose Automobiles (in Phillip), in turn their website says nothing of any association with Yamaha atm plus they're a car dealer anyway.

I don't understand that in a city of nearly 400,000 (regional area 1/2 mill. plus) we don't have anyone selling probably the most established & biggest selling brand of motorcycle on the planet. 3-4 years ago there were 2 (Joe's & CMC).

Anyone else know something different?

I would be very surprised if Joes 'lost' the franchise. Whilst Yamaha pretty much don't care who has the dealership as long as they buy the bikes that their contract demands and pay their bills, they're far from being the easiest guys to deal with. I think its more likely that Joes made a decision to let Yamaha go.
I agree its a problem. I think the problem is one step higher in the chain, though. Not the dealer level, the distributor level. Yamaha need to behave a bit less like dictators who are happy to send their dealers broke, and a bit more like mutually dependent business partners.

My opinion only.

Joe's staff annoy the shit out of me, but I'm certain that the failing here is Yamaha Australia's.
If I understand correctly: Hillsong now own Yamaha Australia, and are running it with a particular business ideology that might work in coffee shops, but is horribly wide of the mark for the bike/dirt bike market.

Remember that CMC had a Yamaha dealership and gave it up. CMC have the other three Jap brands, Ducati, and KTM. Why would they want to put up with Yamaha's crap?

They didn't give it up. They closed up thd Mitchell store and lost the franchise because Joes had one in Fyshwick already. Yamaha didn't want 2 dealers 500m away from each other

It's the same deal up here. Both Bathurst and Orange have lost Yamaha dealers.
