So about the same as 4 solo trips to QMP, you're probably still way ahead.

Which raises a good point. How about bringing in paying permits and opening up our forests again? Permits could pay for roadworks, more employees to police the f-wits who do the wrong thing (litter, destroy tracks etc.)

Good in theory but when we used to have permits and they cost nothing most people didn't bother getting one. For all the years I had permits for the areas I rode in I was never once asked to produce one.
Perhaps after October when we've got a new Government they might be a bit more receptive to any new ideas.
Given that a lot of people don't even bother to register their motorbikes despite it being a legal requirement, I can't see many paying for a permit that will still only allow them to ride on roads and fire trails. I can't see that ever changing, particularly as the QPWS and HQ make it quite clear that they'd prefer all motorised vehicles out of these areas and are probably working towards that agenda.
How much would you pay for a permit?. It would cost the Government more to administer than they'd collect. I wouldn't even waste my time trying to engage them in any dialogue.
I say just be more aware of where cameras might be and carry on.
