would you buy this

Found a 2017 KTM 350XC-F with only 4.9hrs on it. The owner is a complete novice. The bike is bone stock including the oil. The price is good but im worried about the potential ramifications of buying a bike that has had no break in procedure and no oil change. What do you guys think? Probably ok or probably a future hand grenade?

So hard to say with any degree of certanty.
I would say it is more than likely fine. Seee if he will let you pull the valve cover off, check the valves, and buy a cheap bore scope that atatches to your iphone and check the bore.
I would be surprised if there is major issues.

Exclamation

Highly likely it's a very good buy if price is right ,

A complete novice is very unlikely to have revved the tittys off it ! ,,

Or had it in technical terrain boiling it's tittys off !

Therefore , if he hasn't ridden it and constant rpm on the road for 5 hrs, u should b sweet ..

I'd go so far to say it's a good thing it's still got original oil in it , no one pissing around with spanners on it , or using wrong lube etc ...

If it's cheap grab it it'll be fine as stated above he wouldn't have had it on the limiter or cooking it plus stock oil isn't cooking oil & it has a filter so it'll be fine. Make sure it ain't stolen if too cheap!

I bought a bike from a young lady who basically did nothing but stall it and fall over, after just handgrips and a lever, as new and still running as new.

Probably thought it would be great fun to go 'dirtbikin' and is intimidated by the bike or couldn't find the time/inclination to use it.
At only 5 hrs use I'm not even sure it was due it's first oil change, could potentially be a bargain, could also be a hand grenade.

Pretty sure they're all broken in at the factory on the dyno... what company in their right mind is going to trust the average bloke on the street to run a motorbike in properly :/

I picked a 450 up with 200k's on it once that was a few years old. It had a couple of nasty scratches where the original owner had binned it and never got back on it. $5000. They are out there.

Swap the oil, put some rad guards and a bash plate on it then go thrash it. It's what they are made for.

Recuper8 is probably the best hydration pack fluid you will ever use. Its like crack for dirt bike riders.
