Public Access Map - check for track closures

The Public Access Map (PAM) shows road and track closures in State forests. This is particularly useful during winter when seasonal road closures apply on some tracks.

To check an area you are planning to ride, use the cursor to draw a box around the area - road closures show in red.

Hey EnviroRider - do these maps update periodically? Have you ever ridden from Bright to Anglers Rest?

Yes and no - yes, the maps are kept updated to show current track closures, so most of the marked closures come off the Thursday prior to Melbourne Cup weekend, and no, I haven't ridden from Bright to Anglers Rest.

The major problem I am finding is locked gates and no access to state forests, On this track closure map it show's access but in reality property owners have locked all the gates giving limited or no access to state forests?

If you can give me a bit more detail on the location of the locked gates and the dates, I'll ask the local DSE staff to check it out and report back.

We've had some success in other locations encouraging private landholders not to lock gates on public tracks.

I'm aware that some private landholders may want to lock gates during periods of high fire danger to keep deliberate and unintentional fire-lighters out.

Locked gates

Mt Murramurrabong (Turvey Lane, alans Flat) tried every road and track from allans flat all locked gates with private property signs (Adams lane, Miller Lane,Gap Flat Rd, Tomkins lane, Flume gully lane, Ben Valley lane, Maddock Lane, Homes trail) Only way in is off Yack Dederang road via Basin track then when you follow the powerlines its locked again right in the middle of the state forrest at CONDONS. Bit concerned there is only one way in and out if a fire comes through or large tree blocked access out. It would be really nice to enjoy the forrest and be able to drive or ride from Turvey lane Alans Flat following the power lines and exit at yack end.

I dont believe people who light fires need to drive in to the forrest to do so as fenced off bush is easily accessible from car drivable roads, but thats just my belief.

People that spotlight deer at night accidentally shoot cattle, dump and leave rubbish and riders who ride noisy bikes round and round in circles near property all weekend well thats another story.
