DT175 muffler upgrade

Got an old 1989 DT175F paddock basher for the kids & novice friends to have some fun. The stock muffler has rusted out but the only replacements I've been able to find were $200-300 from the UK.

Can anyone tell me what mufflers from other models I could look for? I was hoping to find something cheap from a wreckers that might give a modest performance improvement but won't cause me headaches trying to sort out jetting etc. (My mechanical ability is fairly basic when it comes to tuning but could easily make up a bracket to fit muffler to frame).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If it's only a paddock basher then find a mate with a welder and just weld a patch over the rusty bits?

Or if it's the muffler section just cut it off and attach a WD40 can or Milo tin etc.

Just search universal 2 stroke muffler exhaust on ebay you will find one you can adapt for around 25 bucks

Thanks for the replies. Are they that simple that a "universal" one doesn't affect the engine tuning? So anything with the right diameter to connect to the main pipe will work OK? (Only the shape and volume of the expansion chamber has an effect?)

call your local bike shop, Musket do a lot of replacement parts and would do one to suit.
Or ring some wreckers in country areas they will have a few laying around.

Or get a cheap universal muffler off the net and make it fit
