Won't charge or goes flat when parked for a day or two? There is a constant drain on a DRZ battery from the speedo (I think, anyway) which takes a toll on batteries. A small solar charger connected when parked sorted mine out, back in the day.

Good work to the guys sharing the wiring diagram!

if it really is failing to charge properly, check regulator rectifyer wiring.
theres reports the wiring and feeble plug between the regulator recifyer and the battery can cost .5v or more in charge to the battery.
search for the "drz free power mod"

Here's a link to the "Free Power Mod"
You don't get any power for free, you just don't lose as much.

https://thumpertalk.com/forums/topic...ree-power-mod/

I've had 5 DRZ's over the years and this is the only area that I've ever had any reliability problems with.
A quick check that you can do. Get a multimeter and measure the battery voltage with the motor running. With a few revs the voltage should be 14 V or higher. If it doesn't increase much or even decreases with revs it will almost certainly be the 2 pin black connector out of the rectifier/ regulator.
I recommend cutting it off and soldering the wires. You'll probably find that the wires are black from overheating and will be hard to solder closer to the connector. If so, strip a bit of insulation back and carefully scrape the wire strands with a Stanley knife blade to clean up the copper.
You'll probably need to extend the wiring after you've cut it off so follow the instructions in the Free Power Mod.
A trap to avoid, in the OEM cable there's another wire joined in the loom between the R/R and Battery which powers the dashboard. If that isn't connected you'll have no go so leave the battery end connected.
