Rode it and then serviced the forks with a couple of new seals. Happy days

Was on the bike at 6.00am & did 4 hrs of pretty well non-stop rocks & steps at the G with JPG after family matters put the kybosh on a trip to Wandy. Buggery.
New 0.44 fork springs have improved an already very good stock fork to really, really nice. Plush, great tracking & traction. No KYB required right now. Can’t believe how much better this fork is compared to an ‘14 Sachs 48mm oc. I dropped in an NECJ @ clip 3 (was N2ZW, clip 3) - it has smoothed out the lean, zappy spike in the mid-range & given that electric-like fueling you typically get from the Suzuki needle in a 300. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but sure as sh!t is mine. No spooge, steady idle & linear power with the 38p/165m in it. Almost 8 hours on the new girl & I can say I really dig the ‘18 Beta’s vibe. Feels more planted & steers better than a ‘14 & the motor is just ace for our section-y terrain. Starts if you look at it. The Gas Gas had it’s highlights - what a frame & fork! - but this bike just feels like home to me. Absolutely love it.

..put fuel in it & went riding some tight s/t & pinches - trying to get some kind of ready for Wildwood.
Raining on & off in Sydney but superb conditions nonetheless. Loving the 300.

Had a blown shock last weekend, had it fixed at Clive Ward but no guarantee how long it will last, so dropped the oil from the front forks and that doesn't look good as well, time for a change looking at 300 sherco 4 banger,Husky Fe 250 or even a KTM 250 4 banger.
Cheers Michael.

Today, I rode my '13 300RR for the first time in ages.
It had been laid up because I rebuilt the shock (first time since new/100hours) and somehow the rebound adjuster got stuck fully closed sometime in the process - but I didn't discover this until it was back together... Anyhow, sorted it over the weekend and fitted a 5.6 spring. Damn this is a good bike! I rode it for years with stock springs and was surprisingly happy with it. Fitted 0.46 front springs a year or two back and loved it - just ride with as much weight on the front as you can and it just works. Then I went for a rocky ride (admittedly on a day when my brain wasn't in gear) and I struggled - mostly because I couldn't reliably commit to putting enough weight on the front in the loose rocks. I was seriously considering trying softer fork springs, but decided to wait until I had the correct shock spring was in. That was today. Short version is that it is much better balanced and far more tolerant of sloppy technique. And the improvement over trail whoops is incredible - I was totally comfortable jumping them where I am usually pretty timid. This is all pretty obvious I guess, but I think that the inherent good geometry of the Beta allows a lot of "not ideal" set ups to still be rideable.

A/s tweak to crispen up the off-idle fuelling (from 1.5 to 2 turns out). Jetting is really nice & my oi is chugging away perfectly.
I also changed from GRO Synt 7 to Motul 710. Not sure what Sachs & Beta did to the valving on the ‘18 fork but it is so, so much better than the fork on the ‘14. So much better, in fact, that I am baulking at Ohlins TTX inserts for a great price. Totally out of character, I know! Battled with a new Pirelli 554 m/h front, too, but on it went. Checked & lubed the mousse while I was there. Feeling bike-fit & mentally ready for Gumby Class at Wildwood ![]()

At 55hrs, so I thought I’d have a peep under the ignition cover as to how the Bendix is travelling. The starter has functioned perfectly so far, so this was just routine checkage.
Roon sold me the 300 & he gave the Bendix and the recess below it some lube when new. The whole area was pristine, so I just gave the Bendix some lithium grease ($8 SCA yellow & black can, best chain lube I’ve found & 1/3rd the price of Motorexxy, Motul, etc) for good luck and zipped it up. Over the years, I’ve read horror stories about expired Beta OI systems, crappy plastics, etc, etc but my experience tells me if you look after an RR properly, they are as reliable as any other brand. Also, my 2018 Sachs OC fork with .44’s (92kg onboard), a drilled GT mousse & a Starcross 5 medium is handling the rocks at the G just fine ![]()

Bought my first one, picked up this 2015 250rr Race a few weeks ago. First thing I did was pull the suspension and take it to Dirtworks for a much needed service and look over to see if the forks (PFP Marzocchis) were ok. Turns out they're fine which was great news! Shock had an internal knock which turned out to be some worn seals which was a cheap and easy fix.
Took it out for a solo test yesterday and fell in love instantly. Smooth power, great suspension and all round great handling ![]() Apart from the inner clutch case seal pissing oil everywhere (had the same issue with my last KTM) & the shitty air box cover flying off it was a trouble free first ride. ![]()
