Small coil rewinds sell kits that will bolt up to the CRF with everyting you need to get it through rec-rego including a horn.

What you need:
Headlight
Tail-light
Stoplight (can be activated by the front or rear brake)
Number plater illuminator (white light)
Horn
Mirror on right hand side
Front sprocket cover

Lights and horn must be hard wired and not ran off a battery

http://www.smallcoilrewinds.com.au/

Other than that, from what I'be seen all EFI bikes have reasonably high output stators and a 12VDC circuit that is used to power up the sensors, computer etc. It's usually pretty easy to identify this circuit because it's the colour that goes to just about everything. You can tap into this circuit and run lights of your choice, a horn, brake light switch etc.

I've just finished preparing a 350XCF for rec rego, I'll post some photo's in the XCF owners club thread later today.

Hook the headlight, tail light/brake and number plate light up to a battery and throw it in the air box.

Most of the time you wont even have to take it off the trailer. For some reason they dont care to much about rec reg.

Example A: I took my bike in for rec reg, no number plate holder/light. The mirror was just sitting in between the brake and throttle cables.

The lad just stormed around with a torch and looked at the Vin and Engine number, he said no worries, I said thanks and we went our separate ways.

As for costs, mine ended up being $180 ish with stamp duty, the number plate, inspection fee and the actual registration.

It's a little bit luck of the draw when it comes to the inspections. If you are doing it on the dodge, just make your appointment for as late on a Friday afternoon as possible...

Hey mate, I was in the same boat 2 weeks ago and i asked the questions too. Got all the right answers and set the bike up correctly. Go to bikes plus in niddrie and ask for andrew and tell him tony that bought the rec reg kit 2 weeks ago sent me, He will look after you. Its all plug and play and shouldn't take more then 1 hour to do. Also, Do it properly just in case you have a fall in the bush, TAC will cover you. Not worth doing it doggie mate, For $250 for the full kit with everything... Why would you. Good luck with it champ.

Rehash...

Been searching eBay for horns to pass rec reg req. Came up with this electric horn which looks pretty tidy. Output is 100dB which seems adequate. For $25 can't go wrong....even if it's to just pass the inspection.

I had all the lights powered out of the stator, no battery. I would stay away from buying a 2008 Crf250r. I have had two of them and both have been a pain in the ass. Biggest problem is they eat valves and are extremely tough to start if the valves are not spot on the specs. Just something to think about
