Hey chaps, thought I'd throw this one out to the brains trust and see if we can't come up with some answers.

About 2 months ago the clutch started to slip, kind of a pulse, like grab, let go, grab, let go.

Finally started to make a groaning sound when let out too quick, so I thought, ok change the plates and springs.

Did that, and with the TUSK plates and new HD springs, it's doing exactly the same thing as before.

As you let the clutch out, it appears to spin a bit then grab, which is getting kind of annoying on gnarley terrain.

Someone suggested changing type of oil, but I already use the type he suggested as a fix (Motorex Formula 4T semi synth, which I've used since new).

Any help or advice will be very much appreciated.

Cheers.
Haven't you got a hydraulic clutch? Don't they need bleeding sometimes?

Strummer. Any pointers on where you got you chain, sprockets, slider & guide from?
All mine are past due!

Also, not sure whether to get an O-ring or X-ring chain....can anyone enlighten me as to pro's/con's for either.

Curtis try rockymountain...http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/

you will find the cheapest prices there, just keep an eye on the postage amount as it goes up with how much you spend,if you only spend a hundy it's not worth it-I usually spend around 3-400 and I think shipping is around the $55 mark and there's a thread on here where you can 10% discount codes which effectively halves the shipping cost, but alot of the time you can find local shops from aussie that are pretty close in price or are willing to price match so pays to shop around.

O and X ring chains differ with the o-rings and how they seal, here is a pic of an x-ring

It has more surface area to seal against the chain plate compared to a normal o-ring,I think if you get a good quality chain you won't have too many problems regardless of o-ring type,I have x-ring and find it stretches too much for my liking so will try a different type, also get tm design works chain slider and guide

Curtis, I just bought a couple of chains from melbourne at a very good price.

I've pm'd the link to you.

Phil at HI-SIDE leather repairs always does me a good price on stuff, but you have to not be in a hurry for it.

Cascade motorsports in the USA looked after me with my recent clutch kit purchase. Sending out extra plates to suit my model, free of charge.

Ballards are always prompt with sending stuff, but their prices on many things are not super great.

I'm keen to learn what other peoples opinions are on this subject, as I think if we were able to shop together we may have a little bit of buying power.

Maybe a parts and accessories co-op?

Yeah, replaced the hydraulic oil and bled it, it's disengaging fine.

I suspect maybe I have uneven wear on the flywheel surface??

Clutch basket has slight wear grooves, maybe that is a contributing factor??

Anyone?

hi strummer,
Clutch basket has slight wear grooves, maybe that is a contributing factor??... thats a good sign of grabbing, but you can file this down but just take your time when doing so,if the groves are deep just replace the basket,

so.. when is the new bike coming? and some one on another thread says your getting a trials bike

all the best mickd

Trials bike is a definite, and a new KTM/Berg is also a definite.

When... well, that's the only thing that's not definite

I have just read through the commentary of Saturday's ride. I think the truth was in there somewhere.

I must say it was not boring. Well except for poor Bob who had to sit on the corner by himself waiting for over an hour to see if Drew (I think that was his name) was ever going to come back.

By the way, did we ever come up with an offical number of people on the ride? Remember we need to keep our story striaght for the cops.

And yes the Husky does need a bigger fuel tank. But at least it didn't break down this time..... bloody KTM's.
