Ha, no thanks. I'll wait until they bring out a fuel-injected, electric start XR replacement...

In other news, I managed to find (and buy) a 2005-model XR400 with only 220km on it - so the plan is to transfer all the parts from the 2010 Safari XR (which now has 12,500km on it) to this new bike for the 2011 event. Should make the 2011 event (relatively) cheap to participate in, 'cause I have all the spares etc still from this years event. That's the theory anyway.

Now all I have to do is spend a bit more time on the bike prior to the race (because of work, kids etc, I hadn't actually ridden my XR for the three months leading up to the Safari, apart from a 30km shake-down run), and perhaps spend some more time in the dunes...!!!

Yeah, isn't it a TRX400 quad starter that basically bolts straight on the XR400?

It would be a worthwhile investment I'd say!

Yeah, need to modify a few things but seems it can be done with OEM parts. Hammer's spiked my interest in this, and I've noted you can get kits for it overseas. Does make for an expensive XR though..!

Congrats on the finishers medal mate! Such a huge accomplishment that very few will achieve in their lifetimes. Also congrats to Sequent and any other DBW entrants I've forgotten since the start of the thread.

edit: forgot to say thanks for the write up
