General Motors wouldn't be happy with that, messing up their body like what happened with the Mustang. Then you say, doesn't matter what GM thinks, and it doesn't, as they won't be putting in money like Holden was. Then you're back to the old problem of financing your team. Look at the dual cabs, tried to get the manufacturers involved and now they'll be racing garbage in front of family and friends.

Couple of things wrong with that.

GM has said there'll be no more Comaro after 2021 and they've pulled out of all right hand drive markets altogether, not just the glue on lion badge.

No point putting money into racing in a region where the brand doesn't exist.

The only real solution is go back to the origins of production car racing, or Group C, or Group A so more manufacturers can be involved.

Reading Speedcafe looks like General Motors is getting out of mass produced RHD but once they pack Holden sales up could introduce GM products locally converted, mega dollar cars for those inclined.

Thats why the Camaro and those yank trucks are so dear over here , Walkinshaw rebuilds from ground up just about . The old group A formula would be the only way forward with manufacturer interest . GM even pulling out of the Thailand market .

The dedicated cumadore driver will go to all lengths, instead of gluing on the chev badge, he/she will now glue on a lion badge, get a converted, imported ,secondhand camaro, silverado, corvette etc

Seems like the people in the game think the camaro is the only solution, [ eg I don't think there were any sierras on the showroom floor in the sierra days], lots of private companies with $$ out there, oil and drink companies could hook up with eachother and field a team with cash left over.

Sierra wasn't on the floor, but the Ford brand was.

There is no way in hell there'll be any factory money for a local race series that is not a market for the brand.

The people in the game are either dreaming, or just trying to stop their series from collapsing before they have a real solution.

No doubt they will be scrambling for different brand support. The current format already supports different engine sizes and configurations.

Either that, or they have to reinvent the series.

Ford only is not an option as support for the series will disappear.

Not an easy task when Supercars have spent so much time pandering to GM over the years to the point where any new stakeholders (Volvo, Mercedes & Nissan) were burnt. Ford have all but pulled out on numerous occasions over the years as well.

Manufacturer interest in motor sport is about product development and showing off to the public to generate interest in the brand. If it's not production car based, there has to be an outlet to show off their engineering prowess. At the moment Supercars have neither of those aspects to attract new brands thanks to their history on parity issues.

Sierras were Group A. International rules, pick the best spec'd car align yourself with a European team that runs them and go win races.

That's me standing at the right hand side door, Dean Orr next, to my left, and Alan Gow next, cars right rear corner, he went on to run the series in Europe.
