Symptoms of inner cart gone bad..

OK, thought I'd sorted the topping out. Is much better but still there a bit.Have been talking to a tuner regarding stacks and he felt the inner cart seals might be gone ( and not to change anything till that had been sorted).
Any easy way to check? The ICS one is easy, the other one less so ( need 17mm hex, vice, heat, luck etc etc)

Or should I just buy a new Gas Gas?

Take the cartridge out, run it through its stroke. It should compress all the way in, and then extend all but the way out. Sometimes the last little bit won't push out due to the ICS having negative preload, but you should be able to pull the last little bit of the damper rod out and not have any gulping or bubbling sounds. If it gurgles on the way in, you've lose oil back out past one of the seals.

It's also common if you don't bottom the fork often enough that oil can pass the seal back into the cartridge and over pressure it. This can make it feel both firmer, and top out harder. Perhaps this is what's happening in your case. I wouldn't consider this a seal failure persay.. It just means you're not riding it hard enough or it's setup too firm for what you ride.

Wasnt gurgling BUT one of the base valves was pretty loose and one side had (stock) 19 of the 32mm shim, whilst the other had 13........
Peening gone on both sides , so (obviously) someones had a play!

Thanks to Jakobi and GGNate. Using the YZ manual and TT and you guys, I think Ive got the carts bled and back together. Didnt seem as hard as last time....Pretty sure the inner seals are OK. Evened up the stacks -now 13x 32 mm in each and used proper 'red' loctite 262 ( or maybe that's not proper 'red'... 243 defs isnt ( red bottle, blue stuff). Carts do have top out springs, which I hadn't seen before- as I hadn't looked properly.
Hopefully I'll be able to get out this weekend.....

The guy Ive been speaking with ( who has been very helpful and generous with his time) strongly suggests the (2006) fork should have the free piston and cart seals done before spending money on other stuff. I've been advised that these are not a 'wear' item usually ( and the f'ing around to change them would make me think KYB felt the same- or maybe they wanted to sell more $500 carts?!!)

Never mind all that....got the forks back together, hear the springs when I compress the fork. Not meant to. Speak with one of my mentors(!) who tells me to to pull the springs ( again). Now, I am 105kg geared up and am meant to have 0.46 front ( and Ive got a 5.8 rear- couldnt get correct sag with a 5.6),but could only get a 0.48. These were for a Sachs CC fork.I must have mis measured as the Sachs spring is about 8mm longer... ie even more preload on an already too strong spring.Methinks this may have had something to do with the 'violent' top out.
Original 0.44 KYB springs back in. No spring noise.Lesson learned.
Now to go and ride it....

..& if you want a more compliant ride, maybe drop the air pressure down from 35psi
