Fox Shox

FWIW a set of that era Fox Air Shox would set this AW ' Adolf Weil' Maico off beautifully
And help you get the suspension how you want. As per your first pic - if I recall correctly Maico were still running (OEM production, not factory race bikes) fork gaitors in '77 - if you can find / source them.
And those forks were as good as any OEM at the time.
Good luck with the resto - what a great VMX example to have now.

You could start these in Third gear and still wheely all the way up the start straight ...
then all the way into the sunset !

Just gotta tighten it up a bit.

Nice work on both bikes!

Yea, set of those shocks would be awesome, but dam pricey!! Prob won't ride it to much anyhow once its finished, but it will get ridden!! Got a well set up RM370 for that class

I have let the seat cover sit for a few days and see what happens, but fully stretched it was not going to fit. The cut is all wrong I recon

I knew it had been a while since I did anything to the Maico!! Jan 15!!
I looked at it the other week and figured there was only a bit to do to finish it. One of the main things was to paint the tank. Sent it of to the painters and got it back. As soon as I put it on I knew I had to redo the frame, so stripped it and sent it off. Fast forward 2 weeks. got it all back and sat the engine in. Today I spent a few hrs on it putting back together. Finally got of my ass tonight and ordered most of the small bits I need to finish it. Just got to send some bits of to get renickled then and it will be done. 5 years so far!! LOL

So I finally got of my arse, saved some coin and ordered a few of the last parts of the puzzle!!. Still got a bit to do yet. Got to make some foot pegs up, few lever brackets and cables, time it etc. Did notice today though that the gearbox seems to have lost all but first gear!! They have a really strange gear selector setup. so may have to pull the motor apart again before I fill it with oil. Started the day with this

And finished with it looking like this!!

All done!!! nearly! Just waiting on the postie to bring my front brake cable and chain. Came up better than I hoped. Not sure I want to even start it, yet alone ride it!! Might get a quick squirt up the bitty if nothing else. Not allowed to put it in the lounge or anywhere else in the house I'm told!!
