Mid-late 70s when they took coil winding out of the Electrical Trade Courses and now even qualified Sparkies get it wrong.

yep. By the early eighties, most trade courses were dumbed down to suit a particular steam. What I mean by that is trade apprentices were not front end loaded with the whole spectrum of the trade, and started to stream to a certain extent into what we have in the community, or what the education facility wanted to push.

For me, I got "pushed" down the electronics stream. I didn't do any high power stuff, minimum gens and motors, mainly basic electronics as the "compulsory" electives. This was what the education guru's thought we needed. This didn't fit into my then work place, but ironically shaped my future studies and current profession.
