XR 250 wont start

Hi all, I have just recently fitted a new coil and CDI unit to my 1987 XR250 as it just died on me while riding. It has a faint spark but will not fire, have towed behind a car to try and start it and didnt fire once. I'm at a real loss with it, does anyone know what I can do?
Cheers

Why did you fit a new coil and cdi? Did you just guess?

Tell us what it did. At the moment we know nothing.

FYI XR250s always have a weak looking spark - it's not a big cracking blue thing that you can hear, its a pissy little thing, so how did you reach the conclusion that it was weak?

while riding it just died, lost all power and shut down, didnt start again, spoke to a bike mechanic and he said its the coil, so replaced that and still no go, then i thought i should replace the cdi, next thing down the line, but still no go. have replaced both and towed behind car after trying to kick start for 45 mins and not a thing. towed it for about 30 mins and not once did it fire. hope this explains it clearer, cheers mate.

Pull spark plug out after you've been trying to start it, is it wet?

If it's a 1987 how many KMs has it done on that piston & rings? Perhaps you have no compression left.
Do you have a compression tester available?

You need spark, which it sounds like you have, fuel/air - which you can check by pulling the plug and seeing if its wet, and compression - is it flogged to death and when did you last check valve clearances?. Assuming you haven't changed any timing, your answer lies with one of these things. So check for fuel on the plug, and check your valve clearances. Can't recall if the 250 has a valve lifter/decomp. If it does make sure it's cable isn't sticking the thing open.
