It's the nature of the beast.

After being involved with junior racing for the last couple of years, the small 2 strokes of all colours are temperamental little snots.

Maintenance is crucial although the Katos and Huskies have the most bikes in the field (more choice with only 3 brands offering 65s and the fact their mini bikes get regular updates unlike others that haven't changed in 20 years).

Dunno if they still make them, but Italjet used to make killer mini's when Stuart Bennett was a lad racing them.

used to annihilate the RM and YZ50s of the time.

Cobra? They are one of the most heavily developed minis.

Me and KTM don't get along either.I have a 50mini that wont stop spitting all the coolant out.

I made the mistake of selling the Yamaha and buying a 300exc and it shat itself right when I needed it and to make it worse, KTM wouldn't come to the party to help even though it broke down because it wasn't assembled properly.

So when are Yamaha making a YZ50 again?

Head O rings is about the only thing I haven't checked yet. I also have a Husky 50 that I swapped the rad cap with but they work on different prussures.

2014 KTM 50 mini is 1.8 bar
2012 Husky 50 is 1.4 bar.

what happened to your 300 Nathan?
The ktm 50's and 65's all have plastic water pump drive gears that don't line up properly with the primary drive gear causing them to wear. Or maybe ktm did this to reduce gear backlash and breaking teeth? anyway I was replacing the gear once a season on all 3 50's or whenever I had the clutch cover off to replace the kick start spring again there is a alloy one you can get from NiHill which lasts longer but still wears out.
I found they get air locks in them easily when you fill the 50's up have the front wheel as high as you can (on a chair or milk crate) so they don't get a guts full of air and over heat, once I started doing this they wouldn't push coolant out. Always have a spare stator in the tool box especially when your doing high speed or open riding, the cases get so hot and it cooks the stator.

I didn't rejet the mini's but with the 13 and 14 sx 50 ended up setting the clutch stall speed between 8500 and 9000 86 main, 52 pilot and a W7 needle 2nd from the bottom. The needle made a massive difference cleaning up the mid throttle.
the mini I left the oil pump in place and didn't play with it at all, run 250 to 300ml of oil in the gearbox (manual says 200 from memory) this will help cool the clutch and the cases/stator.
