Warning to bike sellers in SEQ

Theft of motorcycles, South East Queensland
QPS Media on Feb 8, 2016 @ 1:21pm
Police are warning residents selling motorcycles to be cautious when allowing potential buyers to test ride their bikes after a string of recent thefts in the South East.

Investigators believe the same man is responsible for stealing at least five motorcycles during test rides on the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast since December 18.

On four occasions ? in Sunnybank Hills, Woolloongabba, Salisbury and Pacific Pines, the man arranged a meeting with the seller after seeing the motorcycles advertised on an online classifieds website. He then takes each motorcycle for a test ride and does not return.

On the other occasion the motorcycle was stolen from a Kunda Park dealership during a test ride.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, aged in his early 30s, about 185cm tall with a solid build, short brown hair and brown eyes. The man has a tattoo of a fish on his right arm and a wizard on his left leg.

Anyone with information regarding the man or his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.

Crime Stoppers is a registered charity and community volunteer organisation working in partnership with the Queensland Police Service.

For all non-urgent police reporting or general police inquiries contact Policelink on 131 444 or Policelink.qld.gov.au 24hrs a day.

Catch him and remove those tattooed limbs with a rusty saw, that might stop him reoffending.

So he's not turning up in any wheels of his own for the seller to see? I'd say no-one is asking to see a driver's licence before he heads off either....

Yes test rides require a non refundable deposit of the entire purchase price of the bike!

I'm happy to look after $4k cash and your car keys while you go for a spin around the block. $4k would cover the bike, the car even if stolen will have fingerprints for the cops.

I offer a 10 minute money back period if you can demonstrate a mechanical fault after sale.

If you didn't bring any money, you can't buy the bike so there is no test ride.

I am usually pretty blunt with people - if they can't commit on the phone to bringing the whole amount in cash then I won't see them since they can't buy anyhow!

Wondering how the dealer got done, they are usually pretty strict with license copies etc.
