So the police have the model, year, VIN, rego, address of the perps and they still haven't run them down?

That is a spectacular example of not being very good at stuff you are supposed to be...

If it was Melbourne it would be an Apex gang clubhouse by now.

Long story short,

A couple posted a wanted "base station" ad in Gumtree. The guys with the van replied but the couple thought it was a bit suss.
Then they found my mates Stolen thread on FB and contacted him. He intern contacted the cops.
They couple agreed to meet the guys with the van and they did a no show. It turns out they had re birthed the van and it now had a new vin number and was re registered, so officially it wasnt stolen and the cops couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it.

Do you mean that the cops advised you a crime had taken place and therefor they were not interested?

Surely the manufacturer could assist with identifying the suspect unit?

Basically, my mate was talking to the coppers telling them that the pictures he had from the couple WAS his van as he had changed a few things on it. He pointed out the changes he did in the photos But the rego that came up for that van wasn't stolen. So one could only assume that it had been re birthed. And he wouldn't give out the address for the person that had it.
I even asked my mate for the photos to see if there was any geo location tagging information on the photos, but there wasn't.

Running the new rego through the Qld Govt transport site should show when the rego of the van expires.

I am assuming that the plates on the ute turned out to be stolen??
