That's true, its happened to plenty of shops.

One shop I know that was done a few years ago had all the bikes chained/cabled together. Nothing stolen, but the theif did thousands of dollars damage to the stock trying to nick a bike and dragging the whole row off their stands.

Risks are judges, assessed, mitigated.. It's inconvenient but they'll survive.

Which is why there should be a whole lot more than glass between the street and the bikes. The dealers I can think of around here have 10+ foot perimeter fencing. Some smaller bike shops which are just in ordinary 'old timey' store fronts have metal bars/gates right across the front.

You wouldn't get to the bikes, let alone get out with one in any reasonable time frame.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Lake Illawarra police on 4232 5599.

All you can do is make it harder and slower.

Shit bags will always find a way because they don't have to care about what damage they cause in the process. They don't need to use gates or doors.

How about our legal system doing it's fecking job for a change rather than leave it up to businesses to add more costs to the products we buy through increased insurance premiums, security, etc, etc.

You can be damn sure these aren't first offenders and can also guarantee they've been given numerous very light taps on the wrist due to their unfortunate upbringing and various childhood traumas that get trotted out every time they get caught

Agree completely. Get the police out of their cars and walking the street. At night. You'd be amazed the deterrent value of coppers wandering about quietly.

The issue is not at the Police level, it's the courts and our idiotic PC, weak as piss, lefty legal system.

A real deterrent is to actually punish the criminals and make them pay it all back.

The Police continually arrest the same shitbags, only to see them out doing it all again the next day.

If you saw the crap we have to deal with on a regular basis your head would spin.

The biggest risk in Redfern these days is getting your espresso machine knocked off by the local hipsters

Thanks PG. I'm mates with the OIC of the bike theft task group in the LILAC.

100% Trent. The Cops knew who did my place over within a week. It was 12 months later they arrested them because unless the Coppers have a massive stream of charges, the pricks get off.

As I said, back to the old days, steal any conveyance, lose a hand. Sharia Law doesn't look so bad now huh?
