Yeah not exactly the most exciting exercise, but riding everyday isnt possible and gets very expensive...

Well i finally got one for home. Gets delivered next weekend

There is alot of info out there. I have never done any technique work, so by the sounds of it i really need to look at that and drop the damper level down from my normal 8-10 setting. Hopefuly some better times should follow....

Anyone found some good training programs out there? Need to test or get my MHR tested properly again i reckon.

My gym has a few concept 2 rowers. I hate them
But they get you fit as, I don't do long distance rows as such. Longest I've done is about 4km. I tend to stick to 2km as a max and compound it with weights.

Blue try this: 5x500m rows with 10 second break in-between. Gets your HR up more than a long row. Or 10x 20 second rows with 10 seconds in-between. Aim for at least 100m each 20 second sprint.

My cardio session this week was :
8 * 400m sprints 2 min rest between.
Averaged 1:23 per 400m
Killer session!

Why 400m? Most splits are normally based around 500m distances on the concept 2.

I hate these machines! Yet they are addictive and probably the best cardio workout ever. Makes boxing like a walk in the park.

I never got into the long rows. I do 500's and 2k's. Best 2k is 6:58 and it nearly killed me. I get my best times with the damper on 10. I weigh 100kg, rowing at a faster tempo doesn't suit. I have seen lighter guys going nuts on 5 but they are up around 35spm.

Don't forget "New Workout" - you can set almost any distance or Time intervals.

Go to the UK Concept2 site - they have a good interactive programs section which does mean long rows but you can modify what they do - it'll just give you an idea of the combinations possible. It's all based on a 2km row goal time and your present best for 2km. Also, make sure you really mix it up. I don't repeat anything during a 7 day week.

Averaging 1:23 for 400m - you are good mate! Or bloody young and tall. I am 50+ and I can barely pull a sub-1:30. Yesterday I set a single distance of 300m and went all out (I wasn't feeling real flash before it) and did a 55sec time which I know is slow, but I pulled 1:29.5 for the second 100m - which is my best ever I think.

Set the damper as per the instructions Blue.

Bluerider: your wife was around here for Lani's party on satdy, she seemed impressed with your new purchase too

I have never seen one of these rowing machines, I will have to stop in and see what all the fuss is about.

Where to buy??

Links to the best site?

My missus wants a spin bike but maybe I can twist her arm over to a rower.

The kettlebells give a great cardio workout but I was thinking of mixing the workouts up with some pure cardio work so a rower or spin bike would be perfect.
