Jimna Fire Tower

Anyone who's been riding around and seen the Jimna fire tower in recent years will probably know that its future was under a cloud.
I recently received this email. You may also know that David Wright has been actively lobbying the various stakeholders to open some of the locked up tracks in the area to promote tourism in the area, including trailriding.
If you're in the area it's worth having a look in the information centre and Dave will probably hit you up to join the JFAGI, but its probably $10 well spent.

QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT JIMNA FIRE TOWER FUNDING ALLOCATION OF 1.5 MILLION

It gives me indescribable pleasure to advise members, supporters and the general public, that the Queensland Government has allocated funding for the restoration of the Jimna Fire Tower to the amount of 1.5 million dollars in the 2018 Queensland budget. After a twelve year battle to save this heritage listed icon, this news is as breathtaking as the view from the tower cabin. The Jimna Forest Action Group Inc (JFAGI), who have been directing the "help save the Jimna Fire Tower campaign", from it's base at the Jimna Visitor Information Centre, is now focused on working closely with all stakeholders, Government Departments and entities at Federal, State, and local level, to bring this redevelopment project to the most rewarding outcome.

In particular, JFAGI has a solemn commitment to ensure that the legacy of legendary fire tower builders Arthur Leis and his son Gary, is etched in stone for perpetuity, preferably at the site of their grandest achievement, the Jimna Fire Tower. Although not yet formally advised by owners, the Queensland Government, that the tower will be redeveloped into the desired outcome, that is, for public use, as a self funded tourist destination, JFAGI is confident that 1.5 million dollars would not be spent for the tower to be renovated, fenced off, and maintained, just for the public to look at.

It is hoped that the near future will see the Jimna Fire Tower take it's rightful place alongside the recently funded Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, and the Gympie Rattler, as must visit tourist destinations, and add to the exciting range of tourism attractions for South East Queensland, and in particular the Somerset Region. To learn more about the history and heritage of the Jimna Fire Tower, we invite you to visit the Jimna Visitor Information Centre, open seven days 9am to 4pm, at Jimna PH 5497 3174, or visit www.jimnafiretower.com , or google jimna fire tower on facebook, you tube and instagram.

Dave Wright Sec........Jimna Forest Action Group Inc......(JFAGI).

Good news. I was very sad to see that they had knocked down the Gallangowan one just earlier this year. I have fond memories of my two tiny sons (grown up now) running up to the top, totally fearless, then weeing down from the top towards their highly disgusted mother.
