'17 TE250 jetting specs

G'day all. Mate has a '17 TE250 bog stock with around 40 hours on it. I haven't actually ridden it but the thing is a pig on fuel. I'll get an easy 100km+ riding tight single on my WR300(admittedly has a lectron) whereas he's bone dry at 70!
I know the Mikuni probably not as economical as the old Keihin but surely 10km/L is achievable? He's not real fast or a revver either.
It's rich as on start up like a lot of these '17+ KTM's seem to be(multiple starts almost fouls) so assuming can go a size down on pilot. Not sure what his float is set at but it doesn't piss fuel until 45 degree lean over so must be close.
Not excessive spooge but more than I like. Im guessing main could come down a size too as they're normally jetted fat from factory for warranty reasons.

Main question is what needle & clip setting is everyone using short of buying a JD kit as I'm guessing most of the fuel savings will come from here? Not sure what's in it currently but would just be standard as he's changed zip.

I've told him may be worth getting head done at rebuild time for better fuelling/power/economy. In SW of WA so 0-500m, 5-20 degrees in winter(up to 30 in summer as only morning rides) & usually not much humidity. Cheers

Maybe get him to pull the carby down and find out what settings he's got now.Then he will be able to be steered in the right direction.
How does the bike ride is also important and terrain/speed/wot time.
Reducing the main to obtain fuel economy is not a good idea and not overly sucessful unless it's out by heaps and then it would have a flat top end.

No experience with mikuni but if 17 husktm's have the same manual with jetting page, I would just go leaner until 10km/L is achieved while keeping a bit of spooge (excess oil better than not enough I figure).

Worked for keihin good i thought, self taught jetter

Yeah he wants me to help him sort it so will suss out what's in it. Not much real WOT time. Yeah I'm assuming needle is main culprit as spends most of its time trail riding in bottom-mid

My mate has a '17 300 he bought from Newcastle KTM. They jetted it and it's pretty much been a set and forget kinda bike for 100hrs. He gets 100k's to reserve no problem.

It might be worth a phone call to them to ask? You could say you've bought a bike originally supplied by them and the last owner has played around and ruined it?

We went with the jetting specs Newcastle Ktm suggested

So, what are the specs they suggest?

I am on an '18 250 EXC
Just changed to a 450 main (was 440)
43-75 needle - 2nd clip
pilot - don't know but there is a 25 and a 27.5 in my kit, so I am hoping it has a 30 in it.

Cheers boys will check out what's in it. Will probably start by dropping needle a clip as originally thought. Is there much difference between 43-73 & 45-75 needles(I assume the 2 needles that come with the bike)?

I'd imagine it has a 440-450 main, 40 pilot & 43-73 needle on 3rd clip as Italian Husky ran same settings from memory
