I can live with not riding in that area but my bitch is that we won't be able to ride from Matthew Flinders Park to the other side of Old Gympie rd legally.
The only options would involve going a lot further south or north on bitumen to go around it.
At the moment the gates aren't locked and the signage isn't in place.
I agree that they are easy to get around but once they are locked and we get caught riding through there, even on the road, by one of the knuckle dragging gestapo it will be a fine.
I think they should have thought about it a bit more and left Caves road open, it wouldn't be hard to do, and still restrict access to the rest of it if that's what they want to achieve.
My guess is that as soon as they're locked the first 4WD to come along will break them open but it would still be illegal to ride through them.
I've found it almost impossible to communicate with anyone in NPWS. If you can actually talk to someone they refer you to someone else who doesn't return calls.
I have written to the Minister again telling them my concerns in this case.
From past experience that achieves nothing because they really don't give a flying **** and the gestapo want it all locked up anyway.
The only slight concern I have with riding through that area illegally is that I quite often see rangers around there during the week, they have to clean up after the horseriders and cyclists who are still allowed in there, so getting pinged is a real possibility.
Maybe we need a real protest to get their attention like the French are doing.

I agree totally with you Don and the sentiment. full stop.

1 person is easily batted away.
I was amazed when my 12 yr old son some years ago started a petition ( at the be hence of the ex Mayor) and won the fight for a bmx track.

Surely we can get 200+ plus signatures to a petition between here and ADV?

They can't ignore the communities wishes.

That's a nice positive thought, but sadly it's not the impression I got from talking to the blokes installing them.
