Carpal Tunnel anyone?

Well it's looking like I have issues with my hands, many years of long distance riding both on and off road as well as a very hands on job has me developing symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

At the Finke was the worst, however now am noticing it more and more after long weekend rides. Shooting pains up my wrist, weakness ( makes me drop a lot of things, phone smashed many times over these days) and now getting woken up with pins and needles and numbness in my hands.

Has anyone had it or the surgery to 'correct' it? It is concerning, don't want to end up with useless hands! Can't ride with just me legs!

And no, not a dr google diagnosis, spoke to a real Dr about it previously.

I've just had carpel tunnel release completed on both wrists (03.07.2013). Tomorrow is my first day back at work. My experience only; no pain, didn't need the panadenine forte I was prescribed but took it the first two nights because I had the best sleep I've ever had. Stopped then because I thought I could get hooked. Definite loss of strength but slowly and surely getting it back. I had grip strength test done both hands prior to surgery but haven't had it done since. Want to try and get back to original strength.

My symptoms were pins and needles in fingers then complete loss of feeling in both hands. Whilst riding, it would take about 15 minutes to lose feeling in left hand and about 1 hour in the right. Became a right pain in the butt as once I had lost feeling, I would have to stop every 5 or 10 minutes to get feeling back. Just before surgery, I was getting pins and needles just from holding my mobile phone to my ear. Any activity involving vibration affected me such as mowing, whipper sniper etc. Always woke up through the night with my hands bent over with painful pins and needles. None of that now.

Have you had the electro-conductivity test yet?

plenty of docs told me the same things about my hands over the last 10 years

as well as saying i have ross river fever

USA western blot testing for Borrelia was confirmed with a CDC positive result.

also Babesia Bartonella and Mycoplasma

about 15 000 people in Australia currently diagnosed with Lyme.

can't hurt to get that checked, becasue it is an antibody test the healthier you are the better the chance of an accurate result and fast resolution.

bummer is that you pretty much have to organize testing yourself.

I've had both hands done over 2yrs ago and no dramas since. If you get a good surgeon it shouldn't be a problem. There is a few other problems you should get ruled out also to be sure that it is just carpel tunnel. Problems with your Ulnar nerve can also give you the same symptoms.( it's the funny bone nerve) the surgeon should be able to set you straight but ask the question.
Don't be shy once done all that crap disapperars.

Was having issues with sore wrists and pins and needles in both hands for weeks after riding and thought i had carpel tunnel.

Turns out the ktm/hussaberg bar bend was too straight for me,Changed to a bar bend with more sweep and never had a issue again.

Good luck mate. Try rubbing castor oil on it. DO NOT DRINK IT! Don't have to believe in it, just try it for a week.

FWIW I find rue ointment is also good, comfrey and poke root also help somewhat as does eating pollen. everytime i harvest some honey i get a few stings on my hands, that helps the most but it hurts like swearfilter
