Fork Seals CR500

Hi all, noob question if I may. Have a CRE500 with original suspension. Am on the 4th set of fork seals in 4 years and they need replacing again. Only ride it a couple of times a year so its not getting much use. The local bike shop keeps putting new ones in and the keep failing after a couple of rides. What do I need to do?

Mark

Go to a new bike shop. Check out the fork chrome for damage, they might possibly be using cheap nasty seals, unless you ride in a lot of mud?

It could be the lack of use is contributing..

A set a year isn't so bad really, but would get on my goat if I was only getting a few rides per seal too.

Fork alignment, and any pitting or chips in the chrome would contribute. Worn bushings, cheap seals, incorrect installation, etc.

I walked in the shed yesterday to be greeted to a leaking seal myself.. also with not too many rides on it.. However the last was quite muddy and dropping the dust seal revealed a heap of grit against the seal. A quick clean and it seemed to be worlds better.. but I haven't checked it again today yet!
