Pulled the silencer off to repack at 56hrs - the FMF/oem yarn was well cactus. Had to grind the rivets off to pull it apart & will use 5mm grub screws now.

Had a squizz inside the barrel while the pipe was off (bent at our local) - looked great in there afaict. The bikeís still making great power & is running very well, plus with my putting around & using Motul 710, Iím going to leave a top end til 80hrs at least.

With the previous owner having fitted 14/48 gearing & after riding at Cote Rouge with the mysterious Mr Woog on Friday, I have come to the conclusion that the gearing on my Ď18 RR300 is a little tall for our usual terrain.

This is notwithstanding Beta dropping the primary gearing slightly from 28/70 (2014) to 27/72 (2018). I just feel (& have since I got the bike, tbh) that it lacks the immediate Ďzapí off the bottom that I try to use when going up rocks, etc.

The bike also doesnít pull through the mid-range the way my 2014 did. Itís smooth & powerful but just feels a bit Ďtallí.

So, a 50t Talon aluminum cog is going on...

Yeah, SB - thought about that but a 50t is halfway there in terms of the difference in ratio between 14/48 & 13/50 so could be a good compromise if the lowered primary drive ratio is factored in.

The chain is nearly new, so if a 50t doesnít do it Iíll go 13t, too.

I was curious so I weighed it - never done it to any bike before.

Place digital toughened glass bathroom scale on the lift, bike on top & up she goes..

113.8kg with exactly 7Lt fuel, @ 1Lt coolant, 900mL gear oil, Jet handguards, AXP plastic bashy, ProPower cf pipe guard, Polisport swing arm guards, TuBliss on the rear & a (pretty heavy - @ 2kg ) Golden Tyre mousse up front.
