I went and visited the Miners Heritage Walk In Mine at Rubyvale in the Gemfields yesterday with a couple of work mates. But the only gem I walked away with was a picture of this bad boy.

Surprisingly the quill wasn't seized and moved effortlessly.

One interesting thing I noticed was the 3-jaw had a 3 inch shaft off the back of it so it could be mounted in the 4-jaw.

I'm assuming you could chuck up a work piece in the 3-jaw and then true it up with the 4-jaw. I'm thinking for repetitive work you'd get the convenience of a 3-jaw but with better accuracy.

It had Adams and Co written on the side of it. Sad to see the demise of what was probably once a great machine.

A Very cool video of a one-off high precision lathe with air bearings.

This is a really cool trick for indicating a square part in a 4-jaw.
