2016 YZ250X vs 2016 300XC. What to do?

Time for a new bike and I'm really torn between these two.

As many of you know, I'm Yamaha crazy. But I like the thought of the 300. To tell you the truth, I didn't know they existed. The 300EXC is out of my price range and I don't need a registered bike or headlights ect. But the 300XC seem quite nice and is only about $1,000 more than the YZ.

I'd be interested to hear from people that have either ridden both bikes or have had a YZ set up for the bush and converted to the 300.

I have read a few threads on both bikes in the US where people are selling their 300s and buying the new 250x and love them.

YZ250X

Pros.

Cheaper to buy initially and parts too.

Already have a lot of spare parts. Large tank, oversize front disc ect.

Better 'out of the box suspension.

Reliable and proven.

300xc

Pros.

Extra 50cc for lugging up hills ect.

Electric start really no biggie as the yz is easy to start and has absolutely nothing to do with how the bike feels or handles.

Hold resale value better.

Longer top end rebuild intervals I'm told.

Better quality parts I believe.

At full retail, you'd buy the KTM everytime. If you can get the Yammie at ~$9k, then it gets a lot more difficult.

I can't offer specific input on either bike, so the best I can suggest is to stop and have a long, hard think about how much you like your current YZ, and how much you want a new bike because you want a change.

Personally, I think there's always merit in trying something new. But it can be a bitter pill to swallow if you don't like the new bike as much as the old bike...

Love my yz to bits but a bit more torque would be nice. I do believe the new 250x is more torquey, but probably not as much as the 300xc.

I would like to find the gear ratios to the 300xc so I can compare them on the graph below to my current Yz/WR conversion gearing.

Dude, I preach YZ to everyone, but if you can handle the different ergos of a KTM is highly recommend the 300XC. My legs are too short to ride Euro bikes due to their width, so I'll stick to my YZ, but the 300XC is phenomenal.

Wow, that really throws a spanner in the works in my decision. I was sure you would say "slap yourself for even thinking about it and just go buy the YZ!"

The xc is possibly going to drop a little value in Oz compared to excs as they are non complianced and cant be registered.
So while they are a little cheaper to buy they are going to be competing against registerable 300s when it comes to resale.

The linkage KTM's are a fare bit lower than the PDS ones even tho the spec's say different they are. I love my XC had it for 3 years now and just don't know of anything else that I would think about buying. To me it is just more refined in the bush than any MX bike set up for the bush. Everybody that rides it loves it after a while getting used to it. The six speed box is perfect with the stock 13/50 gearing. Sits on 100ks with the 4T on transports no worries and is slow enough for every thing else.
