MAD MAX BIKE STUNTS: behind the scenes with Stephen Gall

Huge privilege to meet Stephen Gall recently, 4x Australian motocross champion back in the 1970s and 1980s.

He was in charge of the bike stunts for Mad Max Fury Road, and at 59 years old was one of the stunt riders too... he reckons 120mph across the desert on the modified yamaha R1 was a hoot.

He's not too shabby at riding still, check out his feet up donuts on the R1 in the video.

Gall is a legend and a childhood hero for me.

We used to sneak into the pits at Amaroo park in the day to get his autograph every time the MX was on there.

It's such a pity the movie was such a piece of sheet

It always amazes me how "normal" and down to earth our Aussie m/cycle champions are. I was lucky enough to meet Stephen Gall at his university of mx back in '86. He was one the nicest blokes I've ever met. Gavin Hutton and Greg Scott, who were also working there, were pretty cool too and again top line riders at the time.
Thank you for posting Barry.

all the top level riders i've met are genuine down to earth blokes, oldscool... i'm sure there's a prima donna or two out there somewhere but it seems to be a sport that doesn't attract that type thankfully.

Saw all the bikes and cars in Sydney before they got shipped out. Prop dressers and effects guys came into the bike wreckers I was at to buy bits to dress the bikes and cars up a bit. We visited and bought some of the good stuff they took off the bikes before building them up.. mostly the Tenere tanks and bodywork and the Gasser trial bike bits.

Was interesting. The cars are mad in the flesh, from memory. Appalling movie. Terrible.

I agree that it was a terrible movie. As far as i'm aware, it somehow managed to win best international film of the year from some organisation

That was a cool video though.
