What gear for a bike tour

I'm going on a 2 week bike tour in Sri Lanka in Jan with a few mates. We'll be riding XR250s, and whilst the majority of the riding will be on road, I'd imagine it will be relatively slow speed stuff. Plus I'm sure there'll be a couple of (hopefully planned) mild off road excursions as well. It'll be reasonably warm (25 to 30 degrees) and there's a good chance it'll rain from time to time.

I've not done anything like this before so am wondering what's going to be the best type of clothing to wear. I'm assuming a few of you on here would have done something similar, so would be interested in what you took, and what you might do differently. And to make it more difficult, I've got a full set of MX gear and a full set of 'commuting in a British winter' gear - so whilst it would be great to utilise what I've already got, I'm not sure how 'right' for the job it will be.

So a few of the choices I have are :-
MX lid & goggles vs road lid with visor vs buy an 'adventure specific' type
MX boots vs Sidi waterproof road boots vs (recommendations?)
MX Jeans vs thick padded commuting trousers vs (recommendations?)
MX gloves vs road race gloves vs waterproof mitts vs (recommendations?)

One thing I think I definitely want to buy would be an enduro type jacket - both for this and for when I eventually get myself a dirt bike! The Ballards jacket seems to be a pretty popular choice - any issues with these? Or is there something that may be more suitable ?
