Auto Decomp Mod for WR250F

I have read about auto de-comp mods being available for the WR250f (02) and was wondering if anyone knew weather or not the work on the 01 250f's and if so can we get them in OZ and where.

Effectively it works the same as the new 03 yzf's and wrf's.

I think its possible for 01's and for sure on 02's the parts to order wont be in OZ for atleast 3-6 months as 03 models arent here yet. And remember you will need the exhaust cam from a 03 WR and not YZ as they are different.

Hope that helps.

Thought I'd let you know.... the 03's are most definitley here, Geoff Taylors in dandinong (Vic) have the new 250 and 450 f's. I think for the auto decomp mod you need the complete 03 exhaust cam assembly... thumpertalk.com has a bunch of info on it

Good luck!&a

True.... But with the WR's being lecky start there might be some diffrences. Anyway the YZ cam will bolt straight in, and give you YZ timing!

If i'm not mistaken, in 01 and 02, the WR and YZ had the same cams, only the timing was changed?? This maybe different in 03 with the e-start on the WR, but i would doubt it. Bolting on a YZ cam will not give you YZ timing. If you choose, after installing, you could then advance it though.

Your half right...

The cam profiles on the YZ/WR are the same, however the part #'s are diffrent.... bacause of the timing marks. So if you were to put a YZ cam in a WR As per the manual (i.e the timing marks lining up) you would have YZ timing, where as with a WR cam you need to advance it one tooth to get the same effect. Hence the diffrent timing punch marks

Conversly you could buy the 03 YZ cam and retard it by one tooth to have WR valve timing, with the auto decomp

It's all good

Hmm, I wonder just how much these parts will be :T

Knowing Yamaha, it could be cheaper for a trade-in :moon:

Cam timing

I heard that it's possible to put the exhaust cam out of the new XR6 Turbo in the WR250, is this true ? and are there any modications I would need to make it fit ?
