Cheers guys. Thanks for the tips.
Yep, done a good job on it. Recovery is going to do my head in, I hate sitting around doing nothing. Oh well, I'll survive

That's horrendous.

There's only one model of boot with a ribbed titanium spine brace. If you wear anything else you haven't done your homework.

Too late for post-mortems Harro, all the best with your recovery.

Thanks Nutty.

Haha I'll ride again, going to be a while but.

Found these Alpinestars that say they have an ankle brace built in. Sound ok.
Are these wthe ones you were talking about?

How many would you have if you didn't have boots though. Last September i did a tough 2.5 hr ride, logs, creeks, hillclimbs, then come off warming down (doing a first gear mono back at the campsite, probably 25kph). Doc suspected fracture but xrays came back clear, ligament damage only. 4 1/2 months until I started running again, 6 months until I felt comfortable, it's been 8 1/2 months now and I still get a twinge from time to time and wake up a little sore every day until the blood flow gets going.

I was wearing Jett A1's and all I can think of is if it done this damage with boots on, what would it look like without them?

Get a MRI. Something serious happened here. My bet is a compressed Talus or micro fracture. Geez Hootie, did this Dr do an ultra or a MRI? Lot of life left mate, sort it 100%. Shout yourself some Tech10s, it'll need good protection.

Wrong approach IMO Dave. I've been involved with FMX since it's beginnings and I've seen probably 2-3 dozen broken ankles happen in person.

Ankles get loaded up because something else in the system has not done its job.

Suspension bottoming, wheel failure, stock pegs, and most pertinently to this thread...deformation of the boots' central sole spine.

If the spine fails and transfers force to the ankle, the ankle takes the hit.

Big gap jumpers and most FMX riders all use the same brand and model of boot for a good reason.
