Mercedes Sprinter - thinking of getting one

I'm thinking of selling my large enclosed trailer and getting an early 2000's model Mercedes Sprinter - the LWB with the High Roof. This era suits my budget of about $10-15k

I specifically want this model so I can stand up in the back, have extra seats in the back, and be able to fit my quad in, or maybe 2 quads.

Question - how reliable are they and how well do they go? Will it send me broke if I need to fix it?

If someone can suggest a different van that is just as big then I will consider it.

Something like this:

I do like my trailer for sure, but it's real big for when I'm just towing 1 or 2 quads.

So just seeing if people's good or bad experiences might sway me one way or the other

I have a 2004 model Sprinter MWB high roof. Mine is also a 4WD. Motor is solid. Clutch has been my Achilles heal but my mecho reckons a thrashed one should get 70k from a clutch. 1st gear in mine was recently replaced with a modified one so it doesn't drop out of 1st - feels good now. When I was buying mine I spoke to a lot of people about them and all good reports - you just need to find a good mecho who knows his stuff on them for one that age.

havent owned one but been away riding in one a few times heaps of power and real good on fuel and if the injector pump needs replacing been told by a mate who works at merc that there under a grand to buy a new one.where as most new diesels pumps are worth thousands.
Take note when you buy one that the model says 313 or 308
The 3 is for the weight 3 is three tonne loaded and the two last numbers are the horse power
EG 08 is 80 horse power and 13 is 130 horse power there is heaps of difference in power heaps. drive them.hope this helps

Bought a late 2005 model 308cdi last year, 93,000 on it , slapped 30k o it so far and no drama.
Steering was stiff but turns out ball joints got stiff in hot summer days (not had a drama in a few months) but will replace them before summer hits as I thought it was steering rack but that's been disconnected and it's fine.

Gearing can be a issue so check it out on the highway, mine cruises at 110 @ 3250rpm which seems high but apparently normal for this model semi high roof mid wheel base.
Was originally owned by a health farm and used to shuttle patrons to and from airport with their gear.
As I said, no drama, haven't spent a penny on it other than an oil service.
Drives lovely, very smooth, enough power, drove it 12/13hrs straight all way from sydney to sunshine coast, not one ache !
Not that well appointed, has electric mirrors and dual aircon(front and rear very cool ! ) other than that, basic but great van. Does 700 to a tank, 70L , that's good.

Only thing I'd change is gear ratio but you need to do diff and ecu so not worth while.

that's very useful to know as I had no real clue between the different model numbers

Thanks!

That is good. My 314 does 700km to a 90litre tank. You sure it's only 70 litres?

Yeah. Last fill was 700klms and 106 bucks .
That's when I refill. 2wd, less power and not much carried in it but it done that coming back from shitney with 6 people and all our gear.
Pretty much same week in week out.
Will keep it another year and upgrade maybe.
Great van though.

I've got a 2005 316 which is an ex SA ambulance. Not quite the model you are looking for, but it was under $14K.

Great van, drives really nicely, lots of punch. Economy is 10L/100K around town and 12L/100K on the highway.

Had it for just under a year, and the only thing I've had to replace was the speed sensor in the auto gearbox.
