2014 barrel on a 2010?

Iíve been doing a load of stereo work for a mate, purely so I have stuff to do in the shed. Heís very kindly given me some old KTM parts he had lying around as he wanted to pay it back (not that it was needed, but Iíd happily take them).

Specifically heís given me a 250 EXC barrel (only 50 hours), CDI and a high comp head from Slavens (never even fitted!).

Heís confident it will fit on my 2010 but I wanted to make sure before I tear my old motor apart. It certainly looks similar.

He also thinks the newer barrel has improved porting, which along with the high comp head is appealing.

What do the experts here think?

We're not mind readers Ed, what year is the donor barrel? I prefer the 2010 barrel for its mid-range bite but the 13+ barrels are significantly better down low.

Do a dry fitup using a 0.40mm base gasket (mike up the base gasket first as they're all over the place).

Check the squish clearance is in the range 1.22-1.28mm, after machining that up, pop the head and dome out the head for 12.5:1 compression.

Post up a pic of the head, most of the heads Jeff supplied in those days worked best on oxygenated or high MON fuels which we don't have. Don't use it if it's a US spec head, the EXC one works better.

Hey Pete,

2014 head to go on my 2010 motor (thread title ).

Iíll try the fitup as I have to trip the bike down anyway to weld the exhaust mount thatís broken off.

Hereís the barrel and stock head:

Hereís the replacement high comp head (new = clean/old = dirty):

Oops. Didn't read the title...

That used head sure doesn't look like a '10 head to me. Both those heads are squishless heads Ed. Just CC the two of them and use the smallest (highest compression) one. I like the look of Jeffs head better, it has a little squish land machined in, I reckon try that one first...

I'm not a fan of squishless heads. OK for PW50s I guess, they come with them standard.

Nutty. The whole barrel and heads are off a 2014. Just to clarify:

1. Will the 2014 barrel fit on my 2010 bottom end? Iíve heard it will but want to make sure.
2. The 2 heads pictured are both off the 2014. Stock and modified. If the barrel fits trying to work out which head to go for.

1) Yes, all good there.
2) Ahhhh, now I get it. Use Jeffs head with the little squish band.

Send me your mob# in a p.m. And I'll tell you how to set up Jeffs heads.

Cheers.
