The Aprilia is not a lot of maintance at all. You read because they are owned mainly by road bike users. They are a dirt bike on slicks all an extra cylinder and nothing else. When buying you need to factor in a rebuild which will cost $2500. Once you have put the engine together correctly they will be bulletproof. So with the prices they are asking for a SXV550 you will need $10000 min to own one and ride it.

I am up for one too...live too far away to commute to ride, so a motard might give me the hoon fix, locally.

I only have about 5k. I want more comfort than you get on Ktm, wr, te type bikes. I saw a girl ona xr650 smashing sportbikes at broadford that looked pretty fun. What are some of the options?

Don't underestimate the drz400sm, you can get good power out of them http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/388...-60-hp-103108/

You could have a 50+hp drz for the price of a new drz if you buy a used drz and then mod the engine.
