Has anyone fitted a steering dampener to their Freeride?

I recently bought my son a EXC 200 and it had one already fitted. Boy what a difference it made over sandy bumps. I was surprised just how much difference it made to the EXC and how much faster I could take the same sandy terrain (dampener from off to firm setting).

As the Freeride has a much steeper fork angle, the headshake can be harsher than the EXC, so a dampener may be even more effective! Contemplating fitting one so keen to hear of others experience or thoughts.

Cheers

I thought about it before I got mine, but after riding it I see no need.

I have dampers on my other bikes but the FR is not a high speed bike. I have not had a situation where I wished I had one.

I've ridden mine at speed, top gear and it's stable as, I did push my forks right down in the triple clamps to slacken the fork angle.

I don't like the high bars as it's hard to rail corners, have replaced the high bar mounts with oem exc mounts which are roughly 7mm lower. Heaps better but still too high for my liking so next going to put on low oem mounts which are 5mm lower than stock exc.

Also have been running Mitas tyres for awhile now and super happy with them, very confidence inspiring at speed with the front knobby and the soft rear EF07 is fantastic in wet clay, mud, ruts and rocks.

I have one on my Freeride 350. Similar to other bikes in that it is not absolutely necessary but definitely helps to increase stability and reduce fatigue if you are going hard.

Thanks for your thoughts. I too don't think they are anywhere near a must, but reckon they would help out in certain situations. May try and see if I can temporarily put my son's one on my bike to try it out.

Cheers

Also it's my bike, not Owens

Amber - is that rear tyre the one they call "green stripe"? And what size did you get? They list a 130/90-18 and a 140/80-18.

Pete yep its the green stripe, I got the 140 but it is too big, rubs on the exhaust (possibly because my bike is lowered), am trying to source the 130 but not sure if they are bringing them in.

captain 4x4, within the first 5 km of my first ride on the 250r my front wheel hit something, never found out what, the handle bars whipped around to the left , next thing I know I'm flying through the air for about 10 meters , the bike flipped through the air and landed on me, my friend who was following thought it was quite spectacular , I fitted a dampener before the next ride .
, best thing I've done to it, I think it's saved me at least 3 times since.
