1) No
2) A backfire requires a specific fuel-air mix to ignite. If you lean off or richen the mix the backfire goes away.

You'll smell raw fuel following hotted up Hatleys as they decel. The tuners richen them past the backfire point to eliminate backfiring. Too rich to pop...

So what if I adjust the settings on the map to accommodate? Don't mean to sound ignorant but its all complicated to me.
