Traibikers Camping/Parking Area

As some of you may be aware Trail Riders Action Committee & Forest Recreation Council- (consists horse riders, 4x4s, mountain bike riders and Trac) are working closely with Forests NSW to secure land (forestry own the land but give us a occupancy permit so if National parks or the government want the land they also have to talk to us) for a camping and parking area for trail riders in the Watagans, in an area near the pines Camping ground.

The camping ground and car park will be built with trail riders in mind, this area is to have parking suitable for trailers and a suitable camping area with toilets a water tank and barbeques.

It is proposed that the car park will have access to the existing trails from the rear of the parking/camping area, allowing us easy access to the Watagan state forest.

The idea is to try and get trail bikes into the forest without riding through the general picnic and camp grounds and hopefully in turn stop the complaints regarding noise etc., and may even improve our image a little.

Signs are to be placed in the other camping areas to encourage trail riders to use their area.
Other forest users will still be able to use our area if they choose, but as it will be sign posted as a trail biker area and they will have to accept the noise etc. (same as Frying Pan Creek)

So what are your thoughts ?

I was talking about this very spot with Chris at Southlakes. It seems like a very good idea. I for one have been using that same Olney Headquarters as a camping ground since I was a toddler...even when the actual building was still there!

I am all for assisting in whatever needs to be done up there to get this new project underway, that area can get very busy at times and I'm sure the average family would like to enjoy their peace with out the sound of my 2 banger and all the other bikes starting up and taking off...

So basically...Its all good...I think it is a great idea and I support it 100%....

what happenes when non-trail bikers camp in the same area, just because they like the camping spot? this could put a barrier between campers and riders.eg riders camp in riders areas only.

Then, perhaps a bit of signage, policing by relevant authorities and some peer pressure from the more responsible riders will help moderate the behaviour of the "hoons".
