Follow Up Letter

Just some follow up regarding an issue raised in the Re-Traction---

Please see copy of letter sent

The Hon. David Davis, MP.
Shadow Minister for the Environment
173 Canterbury Road
Canterbury, VIC. 3126
26 September 2008

Dear Mr. Davis

RE: Otways Trail Bike Issues

As coordinator for the Victorian Trail Riders Network I wish to convey our disappointment at your recent comments in Parliament regarding trail bike riding in the Otway Forest Parks. VTRN believes good community representation includes more than one side or opinion on any issue. We believe you were not fully informed of the progress being made to address trail bike issues in the area and formed your opinion without being provided with all the facts.

It is very clear to all involved with trail bike management in the East Otways that a number of members of the local landcare group have their own private agendas that do not include any option for trail riding put forward other than a total ban! With regard you also meeting with members of the East Otways Community Reference Group, I can assure you the group was not notified of the meeting and no member of the group with an interest in trail bike riding was invited. In our view you did not meet with members of the reference group, you meet with persons using their involvement with the group to gain credibility.

The Victorian Trail Riders Network sought to meet with you last year (after referral by Terry Mulder) and has attempted to keep your office informed of our work with trail riders, government departments and the community. We feel let down by your failure to include VTRN in your recent visit to the Otways and quite disheartened by the your failure to obtain a balanced view before going on record with statements based on other peoples' bias and private agenda.

Accordingly, the Victorian Trail Riders Network again requests a meeting with you to provide a broader outlook on trail bike issues not only in the Otways but across the state.

Regards,

Bruce Dupe
VTRN Coordinator

get to the parking area without leaving their spoilers
behind"
