Large variation in parts/servicing pricing between dealers

I recently requested pricing from a couple of Sherco dealers for heavier fork springs, fork servicing, shock servicing, and engine servicing, so I could compare what they would charge compared to my regular suspension tuner. To my surprise the price difference between the dealers was huge. I didn't ask what brand springs they would supply, I just asked for 4.4N/mm springs; so the brand they priced may play a part, but based on the higher price on everything else, I doubt it. Here's the differences:

Fork springs - $179 vs $280
Fork service - $100 vs $230
Shock service - $150 vs $295
Engine service - $150 vs $275

Prices don't include parts etc. if required.

The cheaper prices are similar to what suspension tuners are asking (obviously excluding the engine service).

What really blew me away was when the more expensive dealer said to service the forks, fit the heavier springs, replace bushes (if needed) and reshim (if needed) would cost $960!

I'm seriously considering doing the forks myself.

Gee there's a big difference there, i had my forks & shock serviced & reshimed to way i wanted them to feel & that was about $500-550, i really couldn't see that bushes needed replacing unless you do a lot of riding or some dirt got in

The dealer is probably farming out the work, paying freight both ways then adding their margin (its a business) on top.

You'd be surprised. Some people are completely baffled when it comes to mechanical work and pay their way.
