06 crf 450x

Hi there. New to this forum. Im from tailem bend sa. Recently brought myself an 06 crf450x. It was cheap seems to have had little use not a bad bike. I have had problems with the wiring behind the headlight though. To the point it was cutting the engine out while riding. I traced it down to the loom that goes to the throttle side. However its now not lighting up the speedo & no electric start. Its fine to just kick start it & go riding.

Does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for it?? Failing this I might have to pay a sparky.

Checked all the fuses/relays?

There's one behind the headlight and one behind the airbox cover.

Good luck, Honda used about 50c worth of copper in the entire loom and it's not unknown for random wires to break.

Welcome to DBW, Wazza may have a basket of fruit for you soon enough.

So that small relay behind the headlight is making an unhealthy sound at idle but goes away when revved.

There was 2 black wires coming from the throttle loom. The one hooked upto the fuse seems to do nothing but has plenty of power to it.

There is a random blue & white wire hooked to nothing. If I earth it out the bike doesnt turn off.

Yes honda wiring is abit of a sore point!

I had a no estart situation/no speedo lights over Easter, turned out to be an earth behind the headlight had disconnected itself, the one that mounts to theb ottom of the speedo mount plate.

That relay sounds dodgy as.

I had this too. That is also the main earthing point for the whole electrical system, so your headstem bearings must be clean to complete the circuit back to the battery!! It took me a while to work out why the bike would die only when turning the bars right.

Ran a new earth wire from there direct to the battery, been good ever since.

Check the 450 thread in the Honda forum for a wiring diagram.

Look hard, some are pics which are useless, some are links to ones that you can enlarge so as to be actually able to read them.

If you can't find one send me your email and i'll email you the pdf thing i've got.
