Ahhhh..... Because I just spent $600 rebuilding my starter and I've got nothing to lose.
I've got a kick starter, so if it can't cut it on my 1st ride back I'll kick it and replace the battery before the next ride.

It's stuffed.

Just bought the exact same a month ago and the instuctions state....storing this battery with less than 13.1 volts will damage the battery.

Yep, have to agree now. Two days on charge and still sitting at 9.6v, which i believe is a clear indication that the battery is rooted.
"Walks, where are you?" :-)

The batteries dropped a cell. It's rooted.

I know the spec says 9ah max charge current but it seems like a very high figure to me. Surely that isn't the continuos charge current and that is peak charge current.

I wouldn't use anything over 2ah on one but then again I never need to charge mine.

Time for a new battery, maybe give a different brand a try

This is very bad advice!

You can jump the battery off a car battery but you do not start the car and use the alternator off the car to charge it. That's a sure fire way to fry your battery.

How did I miss this thread? Perhaps because I've been crying myself to sleep the last couple of weeks.

Thanks Walks. You still pedling batteries? If you are, you want to PM me a price for a replacement to finish my complete 09 starter rebuild? Having read your sorry thread about your bike, I'm worried you might have put your prices up 500% to reign in much needed cash for that new motor :-)
Have to say though, with what happened to my battery and quite a few other stories of these new lithium ion batteries failing after only a few months, I'm half wondering if I should go back to the ever reliable lead acid battery.
Just checked the lead acid in my sons bike in readiness for weekend ride. Bike hasn't been ridden for 3-4mths and battery was a steady 12.3v and turned over the TTR230 in a quick blip of the starter.

Well an average alternator puts out 60-80a, way to much for a little bike battery.
