Port Gawler Enduro track

Just wondering if anyone knows if this track is still open? If so what days/times does it open and what is the cost/membership.

Thanks

Port Gawler

Let's have a real conversation about Port Gawler and given real answers to real questions.

I spoke to the guy who owns the place a few weeks ago. $40 per person. Open most days but cal, ahead.

people seem to allude that the track is salty - Is it very salty? Too salty? Are people recommending that everyone stays far away from it?

Fair enough...........

when it rains the water areas are very salty brine.
I think Port Gawler appeals a lot to the less experience riders (in general) and thus are unaware that the sand contains a lot of salt and although wet sand, especially during the rain is huge fun its also damaging to the bike.

I haven't been for years but there had been good and bad reports posted here on DBW

the good
sometimes have the place to yourselves
chance to open the throttle up, get some speed up
take your quads, pit bikes, motocrossers, unregistered bikes etc and have a blat.
can take your mates, BBQ etc
some wide tracks and general open space to learn to ride a bike on.
give the kids someware to ride.

the bad
aformentioned salt (if you don't realize to prepare before and after)
bad behaviour from other users mainly on the track and in the form of poor riding etiquite.
dangerous riding by other riders
acidental dangerous riding by other riders and other inexperienced riders
big bikes, small bikes and quads sharing the same tracks.
for the experienced rider the terrain is not considered very challenging.
$40.00

I really don't understand the attitude towards Pt Gawler around here. It's one of my favourite places to ride, close to metro and a bit of variety in the tracks.

Yep $40 a bike. Kids $20 I think.
They've got 4 tracks;
-The enduro loop which is about 4-5km long of awesome sweeping berms that you can slam into and powerslide out.
-The sand track which is huge sandy berms, maybe 1-2km long. Probably my favourite track.
-The motocross track. Probably a little simple to be considered a real motocross track as there's only 3 jumps, plus the big table top. But still good fun.
-The supercross track. Can't tell you much about that. Way too scary for me.

There's also some area out the back of the property where you can do a bit more "trail" type riding, with heavily whooped sections and all if that's what you like.

If you're looking for mallee single trail or hillclimbs... well you might need to go to the mallee. Or where it's hilly.

I've been out there probably half a dozen times and haven't yet experienced dangerous riding from others. IMO, people are allowed to blast through the pits a bit fast but it's pretty open and I haven't seen any near misses.

It is salty so you need to wash your bike well when you get home. I haven't even had any signs of surface rust anywhere from the salt there as a result, even after spending part of afternoon mono-ing through the brine.

The guy running it out there is a pretty cool bloke. And in case it wasn't obvious, rock up with cash, I don't think there's any EFTPOS facilities in his little shed thing.

I used to ride out there about 15 or 16 years a go. Always had a ball.

Do they still hire bikes out?

I don't think so. Haven't seen any for hire but I certainly haven't asked either.

Port Gawler

Does all sand contain salt? Even sand that is some ways from the beach?
