WR450 Rough running

Hi,
I have a weird problem with my WR.
About 5 seconds after I start the engine it starts to run really rough, to the point where the bike will not accelerate on flat ground. The odd thing is if I press the start button the bike comes good again for about another 5 seconds.
If I keep tapping the start button while I ride the bike runs really well.
Would anyone have any idea what would be causing this problem or has anyone had the same problem?

Cheers.

what the annoying little Scot said!

def wiring

your kill switch is prolly shorting Or something electrical anyway????

Unless the auto decomp is effecting things

what about the hot start? if you pull that in does it clean up?

Pull your kill switch block apart and clean up the contacts.

You can disconect the kill switch (behind the headlight) and then start the bike but you will have the do a deliberate stall as you will have no kill switch......(owing to the fact you disconnected it before)......

cool ill have a look at the wiring in the morning.
The only thing that makes it run right is the start switch so ill look at that first.
tapping the start switch makes it run right 100% of the time.

Ok i have gone right over all the wiring, pulled all the switches and plugs apart and still no good this is driving me insane. I also took it to the bike shop and spent $350 and they didn't know what it was. They said it might be the computer however its going to be $150 to get it tested and $900 for a new one!!!! does anyone know how the start switch interacts with the CDI? or have a wiring diagram for the CDI unit?

Bloody hell they still charged you $350 bucks fior not finding the fault and you are still no smarter for it niether..

Wish i could get paid 350 bucks for stabbing in the dark..!!

I'd be chasing a mate who has the same bike and start swappping shit to test.

Have you played with the TPS on carb?
Made sure float level is good
Direct bypass kill switch

Drink lotsa beer whilst looking at it grumbling stuff like I'm gunna sell ya or burn ya

New plug
Head gasket not leaking into bore
Spark plug lead is good and not severed on frame anywhere
stator test ohms resistance and exciters
No rags in airbox

Can ya wire me 350 bucks for stabbing in the dark aswell mate..

Yeah i have looked at all that stuff appart from the stater ohms. I just started my bike then disconnected the starter motor and went for a ride with the start switch held in, didnt miss a beat.
tried for woody wood pecker but he was going to charge the same as the bike shop.
